Lill-Marlen Elnegaard
I am a Danish visual artist living and working by the sea in Ålsgårde, north of Copenhagen.
I grew up in Sweden and have lived for several years in Chile and Norway. Moving between countries has given me a strong awareness of light, landscape and the feeling of belonging somewhere. I often find traces of those places in my work.
I am drawn to raw surfaces and materials that reveal the hand behind them. Sand, plaster, marble finish, pigments, textiles and gold leaf are applied layer by layer. I scrape parts away, build them up again and allow the surface to keep some of its history.
My work often holds two feelings at once: strength and vulnerability, movement and stillness.

I work intuitively within an agreed direction, and let the final piece develop in conversation with the room.
That freedom is an important part of the process. It is often where the most unexpected and honest details appear.
